Shop Talk: (Gravitee, Copper Mountain, CO)

06/29/09  Shop Talk: (Gravitee, Copper Mountain, CO)

While up at Woodward Copper I made a swing by Gravitee

to hang out with shop owner Steve Stevensen. Yes, that is his real name. Steve has been a staple at Copper Mountain. I can say that as I grew up there and also grew up watching Steve rip that mountain apart. Gravitee is the only “CORE” shop located right at the base of the mountain which in the winter carries all the gear you could ever need and can even  get that old board looking brand new with a full tune shop to boot. During the summer months you just might be getting sucked into buying a new bike as I almost did. If your making your way to Copper Mountain this summer or have plans on making a winter trip, make sure to swing into Gravitee and say hey. For more info on Gravitee click <<HERE>>.

Twelve of the best freestyle motocross riders in the world came together in Fort Worth, Texas last Saturday for round 3 of The Red Bull X-Fighters. Riders were greeted by a massive technical course that took 850 truckloads of dirt and three weeks to build inside the Fort Worth Stockyards.

He won qualifying, beat Adam Jones in round one, Eigo Sato in round two, and got every judges vote for the overall victory against Mat Rebeaud. Adams missed round one of the tour in Mexico with an injury, lost in quarterfinals in Calgary to Robbie Maddison, and now sits 70 points out of the lead with two rounds to go.

Fanning though to RD3 in Brazil

06/29/09  Fanning though to RD3 in Brazil

Mick Fanning continued to terrorize the world’s best surfers this morning, employing his lightning-fast forehand approach to navigate the thumping beach breaks. Although slow to start, the powerful natural-footer picked up momentum throughout the heat, netting the day’s highest heat total of a 16.43 out of a possible 20, including a 9.50 for a blistering assault on a roping righthander.

“I couldn’t find a rhythm towards the start and Aritz (Aranburu) came out with a 5, I came out with a 6, Aritz got a 7 and we went back and forth,” Fanning said. “Towards the end, I was able to find a wave that stood up across the bank and it allowed me to really open up. I got one good turn off the top to start and just tried to stay on rail throughout the rest of the wave.”

Despite being absent from last season’s event with an injury, Fanning remains one of the most dangerous surfers in Brazil, with back-to-back wins in 2006 and 2007. Sitting within striking distance of an ASP World Tour ratings jump, the Australian is focused on capitalizing at the Hang Loose Santa Catarina Pro.

“I’ve won the event the last two times I’ve been here so hopefully I can make it a three-peat,” Fanning said. “It’s still early days, but I’m feeling fit and focused and looking to put some results together over the course of these next events. I’m confident in my abilities in Brazil.”
